I try opening up my messages but it keeps force closing it was working fine when I woke up. I'm on ICS leek and tried resetting the phone to try fixing it as well as stopping the process from running in the background.

Have you tried clearing cache and if that doesn't do it, try wiping data. The later will clear all your messages.

I had to delete a thread that had over 1300 messages using GO SMS then it started working again. And yeah I ran the update twice I thought I messed up the first time I ran it

Ok, did you set your message limit on Go SMS? I've noticed that on the latest version of Go SMS it doesn't autodelete by default.

Not to take this way around the world but I don't personally like the stock messaging app. Specifically that you have to click done then send in landscape mode.

Yeah I don't really like it either but been lazy to set it up how I did my Droid 3 with all the GO apps
