Stop Facebook from starting?

IS there a way to stop the stock Facebook app from starting up? If I kill it, it's running in the background again within a minute or so. I turned off notifications hoping it wouldn't need to load up.

I hear that, but check this. Under battery information, for the last 12 hours, 34% of my battery has gone to Facebook, which I don't use, and only 2% has gone to Bloo, which I do use. That is a huge difference. Facebook is the 2nd highest in the consumption of my battery.
