Stop Ringing when phone is locked

Sorry if this question has been asked before.

How can I silence the phone from ringing or when a text message comes in when the screen is locked?

This is the new Droid RAZR.

Do you mean you want the phone to ring when it is unlocked and then once the phone locks it would be silenced? If that is the case I am pretty sure you can not do that. But I have been wrong in the past.

All I can tell u is that I can just put the phone to silence, if u don't want messages to vibrate , go into the messaging settings and put the vibration to never

I used to just hit the volume down button and it would automatically silence the phone.

I think my razr maxx had this vibrate to sound on widget in the middle of unlock screen. you can just do that without entering pin/pattern first. So what you need to do is to press the power button till you have that unlock folder on the left side and camera toggle on the right side. The middle part is where you can move it up to vibrate the phone.

I'm confused. If my screen is off and my phone rings, my dialer comes up with the option to slide a phone icon to the right and answer or to the left and send it to Voicemail or send a text message. I'm using GO Dialer EX so your options might be slightly different but I think they are basically the same. However, if I press the volume down and don't touch the screen at all, the ring is silenced. Are you saying your ring is not silenced by the volume down button?

For some reason it started to work with incoming calls. All I have to do is to hit the volume down and it will silence the ringer.
Now when a text message when comes in, how do I silence the ring?

If you want no notification go to Menu, Settings, Sound and change the Notification settings. But otherwise mine only notifies me once. If yours does it more I would check the settings in the app to see if it's set to repeat.
