Strange question about recording with my DX...

I conduct interviews with musicians quite often. I usually carry two compact, digital recording devices. However, it occurs to me I could carry one fewer if I used my DX. So three questions...

1. When recording, should the DX be lying face up or face down?
2. Does it make sense to kill my phone reception, as not to be interrupted?
3. Is anyone aware of any good applications for recording interviews, meetings, etc?

Thanks.

I second this querry. I'd love a good app t organize voice notes, etc.

1) face up, since that is where the microphone is. It is that little hole just below the buttons.

2) I'd put it in airplane mode. Just hold down the power button and it should be an option. This pretty much turns off all the radios. Be sure to switch it back when you want to get your calls and email again.

3) I don't know. I'd suggest Evernote for thetrueserkat, but I think you'll want something more robust. Though you could certainly give it a try. I'm not sure how well it would do trying to sync the longer audio notes to the cloud.
