Switching between nandroid backups

I know that I can swap between nandroid backups from cm7 to MIUI and vice versa, but can I do it on any Froyo based rom? like apex for example.

Should be fine, as long as you don't mind a longer than usual boot time. I can switch between cyanogen and fenom via backups without a problem. I think problems occur if you're on a rom with a gb kernel though.
