Syncing Droid 2 Contacts From Phone to Gmail

I am helping a friend set up her Droid 2. Verizon transferred contacts from the old phone to the droid. I would like to be able to sync those contacts into Gmail now. Is this possible and if so, how?

I have an original Droid myself and have trouble finding things with these custom UIs.

Try exporting the contacts in an archive file in the contacts menu and see if when importing them, it lets you import to gmail.

I was having the same issue; I wanted all my contacts in one place, my gmail account. So I followed this suggestion and exported the files to my memory card and imported them into gmail. Now I have double contacts in gmail as well as the current batch still on the phone. Any ideas on how to proceed?

I am not sure, jboxen's suggestion worked fine for me. You could try gmails feature to find and merge duplicates.
