Sysctl, what is it?

I'm looking for information on sysctl that is included in the Liberty settings. I've done some research and have found that it is supposed to increase preformance. Does it have any adverse effect on battery life? What do all of the interchangable options mean? If anyone knows and could fill me in that would be great. I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering this...​

Alright I've done my research even more and ended up here, Liberty 1.0 and Syssctl Config and here, imoseyon: Enabling sysctl and here, imoseyon: Sysctl tweaking for faster, longer lasting Android

Testing now, will post results later on, expected results should be better preformance and battery life.

Edit: Only thing about the sysctl mod is that a reboot should be preformed once every day or two as to clear the vm caches and keep the device running quick.
