Great news to those who own T-Mobile's variant of the Sony Xperia Z3 (D6616)! We now have root boys n' girls! The screenshot above is one I took after successfully rooting my D6616.

Back in November a bounty began for root for the Sony Xperia Z3 and a couple months later root was acheived for the Xperia Z3 using a method developed by XDA member zxz0O0. That said, the method did not work for the T-Mobile version of the Xperia Z3. This was due a locked bootloader and a patch for the exploit already included in the specific carrier variant’s firmware.

A bounty began specifically designed for the T-Mobile Xperia Z3 in February. And now, root has also been achieved for the D6616. Again, the exploit which gains the root privileges was found by zxz0O0 and working off the more general Z3 exploit.

Good news for you Verizon Z3V owners as well! This root exploit seems to work on the Sony Xperia Z3V as well.

Head over to the thread post on XDA here and be sure to read up. This post by GhostRaiderMX is what helped me the most as I achieved root on the first try.
