text and contacts

When I click on messaging the screen comes up for entering the text. But I only see an empty box above where I should be able to retrieve my contacts. Is there a way to get the contacts there?

Start typing their name or number....

Start typing their name or number....

... and from there it should match the characters entered to your contacts, then just select the contact you want! add a comma after a contact name/number to send to multiple recipients.
