Text message/VM Notification app?

Hi all....new Droid owner here and I was hoping someone could help me out. I like to be able to look at the main screen and see notifications for text messages and voicemails or missed calls. I know there is the LED blinking light, and the top left shows icons, but is there an app or widget that I can put on the main screen that shows that larger?
