text messages not sending

Hi all, im somewhat of a droid noob, so I've come to seek expert advice. I've been having this problem for about a week now and its really been bugging me. My text messages don't send and I can't receive them either. I can still receive picture messages but text messages don't work. I don't know what to do, I've tried talking to verizon but they're clueless, id greatly appreciate if someone could help me out and tell me what to do about my problem.

Thanks so much,
Afshin

Carrier Code Prefixes?

Since you can't receive messages, this explanation is unlikely but still a possibility.

If the contacts you are attempting to send texts to are listed in your phonebook with a carrier code prefix, then the messages will fail upon sending. This should not affect your ability to receive messages unless the other person has a similar phonebook setup.

For example, I have a permanent caller ID block on my number. To get my number to show up when I call my girlfriend, I have to use the *82 prefix. So, her number looks like this in my book:

*82555-555-5555

This applies even if you try and type the number in manually. You have to have an address book entry with no prefix (IE: 555-555-5555).

EDIT: Removed the thumbs-down. Must have clicked it by accident.
