Text Messaging Notification

I just bought a droid and I was wondering if there was a way to have just an icon pop up when you receive a text and not have the message scroll along the top of the phone? People have been playing with my phone a lot since I got it, which is fine, I just don't want them reading my text messages as they come in. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

I think if you download Handcent SMS there is an option for it to say "New Message" instead of the contents of that message.
