Text pop-up Notifications on Droid 2 Global

I just bought my new Droid 2 Global phone today. I figured out how to make my phone vibrate whenever i get a text, but i would like to know if it's possible to have a pop-up notification, like what most other phones have. And if this is possible, how? And will it light up the screen even when my phone is locked?

Yes, but you will have to download an alternative messaging application: Handcent SMS
