Text-to Speech Quality

Compared for example to the voice(s) on my Tom Tom, the voice quality on Droid Navigation Text-to Speech is quite ofter difficult to understand and a little harsh. I've slowed it down, reduced volume with minor improvement. Is there any APP available, coming or an upgrade that will allow adjustments to improve?

Hopefully there will be one that just uses audio clips. I can understand the intent to use text-to-speech for its efficiency but it's terrible. I've used other GPS apps on other devices that use audio clips and they're significantly easier to understand IMO.
