Texting not working

So I just did the update and it seemed to go pretty smoothly. I retained all my data, so my txts should still be on the phone. When I clicked the text button the home screen, it brings me to the texting interface, but the little rotating circle (indicating 'loading') runs in perpetuity. I figured I'd try to compose a new text. I select a contact and write a message. I click send and the phone simply freezes up. After a bit it says that text messaging isn't responding. This is so frustrating as it's one of the primary functions i use the phone for. I tried calling and that seems to be okay, and everything else (with a few little hitches) seems perfect.

Anyone else having this issue?

Go into manage apps, all, and clear data and force close the text app.

DROID RAZR MAXXIMIZED!!!! PREPARE TO BE VANQUISHED!!!

I'm assuming clearing the data on, for example Handcent, is going to delete all conversations? That's the one thing I'm trying to avoid, I know I have multiple conversations up that I stupidly did not save the numbers for...

Allow the ICS install to complete?

There was a place during the ICS install that took a reaaaallly long time to complete. It was right after "optimizing apps" (I think). I think it said "loading apps"? I heard that if you force shutdown your phone you would end up with problems and might have to do a factory reset.

Like we were supposed to be patient and wait for the phone to completely finish all by itself.

Not sure if this will be a fix-it for everyone encountering this texting problem... But I managed to get mine working somehow by unmounting the SD card, then powering down my phone. Once the phone rebooted and mounted the SD card, I got a notification that I had like 6752 new text messages haha.
Came across this because I thought I was going to do a FDR, so I was transferring all of my pics/files to my SD card. I unmounted it, removed it, then noticed that I missed a few things yet... Plugged the SD card back in, rebooted, and voila, works like a charm now... Well, the texting does at least. Lol

If you want to keep text messages just in case of problems, use "SMS Backup and Restore" from the Play Store ... it makes backups of all your texts. And it's a free app. :)

I just discovered that my texting capabilities has crapped out exactly like the OP and the_krusatyr. Handcent crashes and the stock app just keeps loading. I read elsewhere that for some it takes an hour of loading (just once) for the messages to come back. My phone has "loading" for a while now to no avail.

I would use SMS Backup & Restore like I have in the past but since the messages don't load the progress bar just says "NaN 0/0" and does nothing. This is the only thing preventing me from resetting since I have well over 10,000 messages on this baby.

Try the SD card thing... I'm curious to know if it was just a random chance that mine ended up finally loading the texts or if it was the actual trick lol
