Texting/Typing - Placing cursor in a particular position?

Don't know any other example to use to explain this issue except for the iPhone. Whenever you started to type something but made a mistake, you could do a long press over the word and a "magnifying glass" pops up, allowing you to place the cursor in a particular position in the word...

Anything like that on the droid? I hate having to hit the word a few times to get it in the exact spot i want it when trying to correct just 1 or 2 letters.

Of course you could try Swype out. This looks very promising and if you do happen to make a mistake you just tap the word and it will highlight it with options. Check it out in the applications forums. At first I was skeptical, but after watching the tutorials and working through them, I am loving this new way of typing.
