textPlus pulling from gMail contacts, not phone contacts

I just got my droid today (VZW). Someone told me I need to get the textPlus app. when I try to add a # from contacts, it's this long list. after doing some investigation, it's pulling from my gmail contacts... anytime you use an email more than 3 times, gMail caches the address.... It has 1895 contacts!!! my normal contact book is barely 300.

So, without dumping some important emails by deleting the "All contacts" via my gMail, what is the best method of going about this??
