In the long run, Lollipop was the name and logo which won out to be the final "dessert" theme for Android 5.0. Last year, we all thought it would be Key Lime Pie, and there was even evidence it was called that internally by Google devs right up until the last minute before it was suddenly changed to KitKat.
While that particular instance occurred because of a marketing deal that Nestle made with Google, the latest Android 5.0 had several options which could have become the final Android "L" dessert theme. The answer as to why Lollipop was chosen may never be known officially, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate on "what might have been." The folks at AnDevCon.com did exactly. They created a series of logos for several of the possible Android dessert themed logos that could have existed if Lollipop was not picked.
The above is for "licorice" which was rumored to be the final version, but turned out to be a snarky trick in the long run. The rest of the faux logos can be seen in the thread below. Enjoy!
Sidenote - The most humorous logo has to be Lima Bean, although I did some digging and it turns out that Lima Beans are used in several dessert recipes, including puddings and pies. It would have been hilarious if Google picked it!
