The Benifits of Rooting The X

I'm new to this rooting talk and dont get my droid x until tomorrow but I just wanted to know what the benefits of rooting the droid x were. Is rooting a X somewhat similar to jailbreaking an iphone? Again, I apologize for the newb question but I got to start somewhere. Thanks.

just read up on the hacks section for the DX

wifi tether, screenshots, remove bloatware (unwanted apps)

and yes its similar to jailbreaking
