So I have had my droid since it came out. But honestly I do not feel I have tapped into all that it can do. I am not much of a tech type of guy and honestly find the speech to text just great...I was happy how well that worked. But I want to say to somebody....oh yea...my phone can do that!!!!!

So what, in your opinion, is the coolest thing that the droid can do??

The keys to unlocking what your phone can do is the way you have it set up, and the apps you have installed. Once you have things set up the way you want, you can do many of the functions of having a laptop with you at all times.

I have mine set up so that beatiful widgets as the top banner, and the news widget below that, giving me breaking news stories, weather, time, calendar, and alarm clock all within the first 2 top lines on my home screen.

Below that, I have a stock widget, giving me the last # of the Dow, to keep up with what the market is doing. Below that, I have a few webpages, one goes right to my work email, so I can check my work email at the click of a button (I do have to log in, but thats ok).

NFL Mobile, NPR news, Music, XiiaLive light (to get shoutcast internet radio), google maps, pandora, aloqa. This gives me my media stuff on another screen. I plug my phone into my car and listen to internet radio, NPR news, aloqa for locational infromation (resturaunts nearby, etc). I also have a 4 banners from feeds I want to update to my phone constantly, from "AnyRSS reader", giving me updated CNN news, some funny things, and BBC news and financial information.

My right screen has my direct dial contacts, voicemail, voice search, voice dial, etc.

I use Helix Launcher and have Phone, Messaging, Gmail, and browser on my bottom bar so these options are available at all times.

Finally I have one page filled with weblinks that open up the web pages I goto most often, ESPN, Yahoo, CNN, Webmail, a few websites with forums I check up on often.

On the SD Card I save down all my important documents, some password protected. Work websites, logins, links etc, not to mention all my MP3s and other media stuff.

Things like Google Goggles will allow you to just take a photograph of anyone's business card and easily put in their contact information, apps like Shazaam will allow you to never have to wonder what song is playing.

Its pretty astonishing how much the phone can do, and how usefull it is. I'm constantly wondering how I got along without it before this. With Froyo next week, things should get even better.

Root...

Give me a break... that in itself is not the coolest thing, but a means to other cool things.

The coolest thing? Its hard to say...probably use PhoneMyPC to connect to my home PC. I'm trying to see if you can use the phone as a webcam too. If you can, that would probably be the coolest thing besides PhoneMyPC.

I really like SkyDroid and MyTracks. Use them both on the golf course.

I really like having phone, email, GPS, and music all in one device.

Root your phone, gotta agree with everyone else here. Then the posibilities are darn near limitless. My phone does everything...now if there was a way to connect it to other peripherals like a external harddrive, or a projector....and if it could transmit FM so I can listen to music on my phone, through my car's speakers....

Seriously though, droid does, and does, and does, and does...
