Rear fingerprint scanners seem to be pretty popular lately. Samsung even ditched their front home button with fingerprint sensor on the S8 in favor of a rear fingerprint scanner. I for one prefer the rear fingerprint sensor. The only drawback to having the fingerprint sensor on the rear is not being able to access it when the phone is laying down flat on a desk or table. If you are not a proponent of the rear fingerprint scanner you may be happy to know the OnePlus 5 won't feature it.
Carl Pei the CEO of OnePlus has confirmed that the OnePlus 5 will feature a front facing fingerprint scanner similar to what we have already seen on previous OnePlus devices. There were early rumors that the fingerprint scanner might be embedded in the display. If they are able to beat Apple and Samsung to this it would create a serious amount of buzz for their OnePlus 5 launch. I'm not holding my breath. Still this should be a pretty great phone for the price with a 5.5" FHD display, Snapdragon 835 SoC, and 6GB of RAM.
