thinking about getting this phone. too late?

long story short is i wanted the incredible hd. now its being pushed back till next year. however i got to really thinking about it and the inc hd may not be for me anyway. i will not be in a lte area for quite sometime and other than that there wont be any appreciable differences in it and the x imo.

one reason im not sure about the x is because the end of life is scheduled for 3/11. i am an avid follower of this site and i have seen what eol does to the forums for that particular phone. i have the og droid some times only a handful of posts are made each day. also im afraid that the dev's will participation will drop.

i take advantage of the early upgrades. so if i bought this phone i could upgrade in 11/11.

do you guys have any suggestions?

I only just got mine after switching (after two days) from the Incredible.

Get it, you won't regret it.

I have had mine since release, prior to that, I had the D1...The X is an awesome phone and I do not think you will regret getting it...In addition to the forum here, there is a sister site for just the X... www.droidxforums.com - so you can check that out too...

Hey digdug1,

I was in the same boat, and ordered the Dx on Friday. The problem exists that technology will continue to advance. By the time the DincHD comes out there will be another cool phone that is a few months away that you could hold off for, wait for that and hey another one would be coming up. And thus one of the conundrums of life, instant gratification now or wait for a hypothetically better situation in the future.

More of the deciding factors for me was 3g vs LTE.... It would be cooler to have LTE, sure, but I'm still getting over my account will be costing 30 bucks more already, let alone costing more with LTE.
That being said, it doesn't quite seem like many more 3g devices are coming out soon, and the ones that are seem to be less impressive.

Just my two cents.

^^ agreed^^ i will not be getting the lte service either. which is why i probably will be getting this phone. i am waiting to see if there are any black friday sales.

one other question though, if i get this phone now will vzw rebate me any money if the price drops within 30 days?

I was also waiting on the Incredible HD. I gave up and bought the Droid X a few days ago and I love it so far. The only thing that scares me is the recovery after I rooted it. I feel like I will eventually brick it, lol. Not as many roms for it either. I'm running Rubix 1.6 right now and it has swype so that's pretty cool. The big screen is awesome compared to D1.

Rubix seems like the most stable ROM out there right now. That's just my personal opinion

Got my DX a week after launch. Wouldn't go to another phone right now. I got to mess with my cousins Incredible as well. I just like the bigger screen. Feels smoother to me too

i know you can swap it out within 30 days. i guess i could take it back and swap it out for a cheaper x??

Perhaps you could. IDK right now that is out there that is actually better then the X except maybe a Galaxy S but idk much about that phone

I specifically asked about this when getting the Dx, with Black Friday coming up and all. I was told within thirty days, if the price changes you can give them a call and they'll credit you back the difference. But was also told that the price will most likely not be dropping in the next 30 days.

Edit:

To snoop around what VZW typically does for black fridays, I looked up last year's deals. Basically found an article listing discounted phones, with their power house phones not being a part of the discounts (OG droid, Blackberry storm 2, etc)

If anyone has had good black friday luck in the past let us know. I'm guessing this year it's gonna be another BOGO/BOGA deal on the fascinate or something.

I've had the DX for a little over a week after holding on to my D1 until Verizon had an offer than made it worthwhile letting my husband have a data line <G>. It seems like a lot of the folks that had a hard time letting go of the D1 are going to DX and I can see why. I may have a few extra apps on board but the OS looks like the Android that I am used to except that the screen seems huge and gorgeous and fast. I know it's heresy, but the screen moves like an iTouch screen. My only problem with the D1 was that the screen didn't move smootly. It would be close to selecting something before I could get it to move to the next screen or up and down a list.

I think the DX is going to be great insulation against the new, new thing storm. Of course, I used my husband's upgrade to get it so I still have mine

well speaking of black friday ive been thinking of upgrading through best buy with verizon. according to The 2010 BestBuy Black Friday Ad Scan the samsung fascinate will be only 1 dollar on black friday. my wife wants this phone so thats what i am leaning towards. i spoke with a sales guy about it the other day and he made it seem simple. then i spoke with a verizon guy and he was dissing best buy. so i dont know who to believe.
personally im leaning for the DX but the incredible is "supposed" to be 1 dollar also (on page 2 of that ad on the link i posted) and that seems like a great phone as well. if my wife and i can get smart phones for 2 dollars that sounds great. and we just got on the unlimited family 1400 plan for 139.99 posted in the driod news forum under the big red unlimited topic.

anyone have any insight as to upgrading through anyone OTHER then verizon?
walmart is also have a $100 gift card if you upgrade/ new aco**** with them to verizon. so thats tempting to since VZW can't match those prices but i dont want it to mess up my super unlimited deal. ugh...
