I know theres an option that I can check where Ill be able to download and use third party apps instead of just the ones on the Market. Ive been wondering, is it worth it? Are there any apps there worth having? It seems that the actual Market has just about anything I would want.
This option is there i believe not only for testers but for those who don't want to put their app on the marketplace. If someone made a porn app, not sure it will stay on the marketplace but that doesn't mean the phone can't use it. Right now, yes, pretty much any app is only coming from the app place. As in a previous post though, someone asked about putting sherpa on their phone, well technically this isn't in the app marketplace, so i think it's still considered a 3rd party app.
It is useful in some rare, but valuable cases. For example, there are some apps, such as ereader, that are not in the market yet but they can be downloaded directly from the website. You will then need a third party app installer to install them.
I actually suspect that this feature will get more and more use as people grow more frustrated with the crude interface of market and of some of the front end type websites.
