Nope. It does nothing you can't do yourself and it runs in the background all the time.

Droid. The first Droid. The best Droid. My Droid. And boy do I hate stock.

Opinions vary, ymmv. Best way to know is to try it out and see how it performs for your device, and how you use the device.
From a pure systems perspective, the OS is self policing, yet some folk report and notice/quantify gains.

Personally, I am able to get up to 38 hours of use on my extended battery using JD Ultimate, with minimal usage. That is with connectivity off when the phone is locked

I installed the free version and seems to help some. When the screen is locked the data connectivity is turned off.
