Thunderbolt with Liquid Smooth... Emoticons too large

I just installed liquid smooth on my wife's thunderbolt. Everything is working great except the emotions are enormous. Is there any way to change this?

Is this with the stock messaging app?

It is in the default messenging app and in handcent. Also, when the emoticons in Handcent are changed in the settings, it does not apply to old conversations. I can't find a way to change it in any settings for the default app.
