The Toshiba Excite 7 was officially announced yesterday. It boasts a quad-core processor, a microSD slot and more for only $169.99. Here's a breakdown of specs and features:
  • 7-inch 1024 x 600 Display
  • Quad-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 0.3MP front facing camera
  • 3MP rear camera
  • Android 4.2.2 runs the show
  • Enhanced stereo speakers
  • 12 hours of general use / 7.5 hours of video playback
  • microSD support
Taking a look at the specs and the version of Android running the device, it's hard to justify this device even at this price. The specs are rather mediocre, although the microSD slot and Quad-Core CPU is appreciated. What do you guys think of this one?

The low screen resolution and only 1GB of RAM makes this a "miss" for me.

Clearly shooting at the low-end of the market. Problem is that most apps now are more performance-hungry and even with a Quad Core, the 1GB of Ram is a huge bottleneck. The terrible cameras are completely a fail for our DroidForums community but may work for those who've never had a tablet or performance phone.

Display size: 6.04" × 3.54" = 21.37in² (15.34cm × 8.99cm = 137.89cm²) at 169.55 PPI, 0.1498mm dot pitch, 28746 PPI²

169.55 PPI is terrible in today's market. This would be OK for a kid's tablet so he didn't hog the Nexus 7 with 1920X1200 (323 ppi), 1.2mp front and 5mp rear cameras and 2GB RAM, but otherwise not worthy of consideration.
