when sending an email and trying to attach a file, i only have the option to send a media file(pic or vid if i remember correctly). how do you, or better yet, can you send a doc file from your phone?
I don't know if this applies to a google account but I have 5 pop accounts on my phone and one of them is a default account. When I open up the mail app, i click on compose mail, menu, attachment, document from the list. I am then prompted to attach from PDF or office document. I choose office document and all my docs, txt xls files are shown for my choosing

i thought i was using the default acct, but went back and tried, but no joy. still getting the options for pics. thanks for the info though. i'll keep trying to figure it out. if someone has more advice i am all ears.
just reread your post, yeah, this happens with the google acct. i did try this with the mail app and it works just like you said, so it looks like an issue with the google mail app possibly.
If you install astro, then when you choose the attach option it will bring up the choices of gallery or astro. Choose astro and you can navigate to whatever file you want to attach.
