Unable to Sync Google Account on Newly Activated Device

I just received my Droid 4 on Friday, but just got around to activating it a few hours ago, but when I go to sync my Google Account the password is not accepted. I did some searching and I saw that other people have encountered this issue on other current gen Android devices. One of the solutions was to change the current password to one with 8 characters because more than that would cause issues. I've changed my password a few times now and I'm not having any luck. I'd rather not have to make a new account, lose my contacts, and have to rebuild. I've re-entered passwords so many times now that I get an auto-captcha with each entry. Is there a work around for this?
 
There was a mention somewhere of 2 step authentication with Google account (Log in from PC and authorize the device). Do you have that?
