Also rooted DInc last night using this method. It was pretty painless. I did have trouble finding specific directions so here's some short directions:

Download the HBOOT driver they have linked on their website and follow the directions they have (complete with screenshots) for installing the driver. Make sure htsync is uninstalled first.

Run unrevoked on your desktop and with the phone on, plugin USB.

It gives you status and any instruction needed... voila root!

I'm confused as to how I use this on my rooted 2.1 to update to a rooted 2.2--

Do I restore the stock recovery, run unrevoked forever, OTA, then run unrevoked 3.21 (which places clockwork back on my phone)?

I don't believe you are able to use this when your phone is already rooted. You would have to unroot, then update to froyo (OTA or manually), then use this tool. Sorry for the inconvenience.
