Update 3.26.605.1 (?)

First, my phone is rooted with the stock OTA FroYo 2.2 update, stock kernel and I have few root apps. Nothing particularly interesting.

Yesterday a got a notice for a system update. After it downloaded, I gave it the go-ahead to "restart and install" and then it just froze with the button saying... "rebooting now...".

I waited for about 5 minutes and still nothing, so I manually rebooted and the phone started as normal. No install process, no progress bars or anything. I went into settings to check system updates, and it said my phone was up to date. It didn't make sense being that the update notice said that it could take up to 15 minutes to install and I didn't see it do anything.

It really bugged me so I emailed HTC support and the responded saying that if I was current, my software number should be "3.26.605.1". I checked and mine is 3.21.605.1 and yet System Updates still said I was up to date. The CS rep gave me a suggestion to trigger the update again which I followed. The auto-update triggered but the same thing happened. Downloaded, prompted to restart and install, then it freezes on "rebooting now...".

I guess my main question is... Does anyone know enough about the update to say whether or not I even need OR want it?

I read some posts on the HTC community forum where quite a few people had some nasty side-effects from the update. Missing or corrupted apps, missing contacts, disabled widgets, system settings screwed up and so on. The only positive I saw was that one or two people reported better battery life and a small speed improvement. The battery improvement makes it real tempting but not at the expense of losing everything else.

If the consensus is that the update is a good thing, any suggestions for a fix would be appreciated.

Thanks.

First off your phone should not apply the update even though you told it too. The custom recovery, in your case Clockwork Mod, should not allow an OTA to be applied and by the way your post reads it did its' job. The reason for this is that OTA updates are for STOCK ROMs and kernels and do not work with custom ROMs. So enjoy your custom ROM or go back to stock and unroot and get the OTA.

Darksider ...

Thanks for your timely response. I read that there are "root versions" of these system OTAs. Do you know if there is such a thing and where I could look for it?

If memory serves me correctly there is no root for the current Incredible OTA. I believe the folks that maintain unRevoked are currently working to solve the issue.
