Hey guys...

Anyone know why it keeps saying "update unavailable" when i try to manually download 2.3.340?

Excellent coverage area...no issues with previous upgrades...3g connection....battery pulls...everything.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Have you gotten the update notification? I know they roll the updates out in batches and it may just not be available for your phone yet.
Rumor has it they release it in 1 of 2 ways... medi # or purchase date.

I never even checked it for it, I just downloaded the OTA zip that is available online. I would just do that if you want to update and it's not available in your area yet.

I didn't get a notification either however, tonight I went into

Settings>About Phone>System Update

Then it told me that there was an update available. (I was on Wi-Fi but I don't know if that matters)

The Madden game is pretty cool.

I think that's what he means when he said "manually download." Not sure though.

How'd you load it? Did you do it right on the phone itself?

I always do manual updates by mounting the phone and dropping the update.zip on the SD card. Then reboot the phone. Now I'm not sure what you do with an X and no keyboard but on the D2 I hold the X down on the keyboard and it boots to where you get the exclamation point and triangle. Then I press camera and volume up at the same time. Then again using the manual keyboard I go to the update zip and install it that way.

This is one of the reasons I didn't get the X was I didn't understand how you could install updates. I'm sure someone will correct me and I'm sorry if my post isn't helpful, but there's got to be a similar way to do it on the X. I think.

^^^ Yes, you hold down the home and volume down buttons as you power on the phone - when the "M" logo appears you release the power button still holding down home and volume, then it enters the stock recovery. You install the update.zip from there.

El Camino, that's what I did with the OTA update as a .zip file. You should try that. Let me know if you need the file. I can send it to you or show you where to download it.

I got the new update. Its Android 2.2.1 and Verizon 2.3.3.40. I did it OTA. The only issue I have is sometimes webpages freeze loading. Like they are still loading but the info stops uploading and downloading.

Plus I noticed the vibrator changed. Before it felt "loose" and now it is really tight and almost sounds like a fart. :icon_ banana:
