Update when rooted?

I'm definitely not crazy or exactly savvy when it comes to rooting and stuff, but I'm not completely technologically illiterate either (lol) so I was able to root my motorola droid maybe almost a year ago. However, I'm having problems with freezing that's driving me nuts, n it never happened before the root. And, the verizon update is constantly in my notifications area which is annoying. Soooo, I've decided I want to just unroot this bad boy n do the verizon update.

My question-can you do the verizon update on a rooted phone without messing it up? I understand it will unroot it obviously, but I dont want to mess up the phone. If it will mess it up, how do I unroot? I thought I could just do it through rom manager, but wasn't sure how. Any help would be appreciated because I'm REALLY sick of this phone and at this point can't wait until august when I can upgrade!!!

I'm in the same boat as you^.
I think that your phone has updated, it just doesn't recognize it. Check you software version. It should be 2.2, as is mine, but I still get the constant updates. Freaking annoying.
I've attempted putting the original files on the SD card, but I don't have the folders that some instructions talk about, and the described menus/screens don't pop up doing the power+"x" or Camera and volume +. Suggestions?
I'm thinking about going in to a VZW store and just telling them I lost my phone...
Thanks
