Updated to 4.0.4 and now a bunch of apps don't work

I'll start off by saying that I bought this Razr when I was living in the UK. It was an unlocked phone and I currently don't have a plan here in the states (am playing on going to AT&T soon, probably, because that's basically the only company that will allow me to use this phone). Even though I don't have a phone plan, I use my phone mainly for facebook purposes, taking photos (and uploading them using wifi), and listening to music.

So I've continuously gotten the notification that I can upgrade to 4.0.4 for a while now, and have ignored it until the other night. I thought "Eh what the heck." It upgraded and the layout was different...no big deal. The only problem is that now basically EVERYTHING I ever used it for before, won't work. I can take photos, but when I try to view them (and consequently upload them) I get a black screen like it's trying to run something, but it just never does. It sometimes gives me the notification that x application won't run, and gives me the option to wait or force close. The exact same thing happens when I try to play music or use certain apps (for example, Vignette demo won't work, Camera 360 will). I can't view my old photos or songs.

Another weird thing is, I tried to download Rocket Player (to try and get past the issues and still access my music) and when I open it, it says that no music is detected...despite the fact that I have songs on my phone AND on the SD card inserted into the phone (and I can see the songs when I go through the SD card).

What the absolute crap is going on here? All my apps are updated, is it just that they don't run with the new version of Android? Any suggestions on what I can do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A couple things to try that may help. Download and install "appcachecleaner" from the play store and clean out the phones cache.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling any apps that are not working.

I have also found in the past that SD cards can go bad and will cause all kinds of problems on a phone. Try removing and reinserting the SD card first and see if that helps. If you have access to a SD card reader and computer, remove the SD card from the phone and see if you can access the files on a computer. You may also try using the disk utilities on your computer to scan the card for errors.

See if that helps.

Also, often times all that's required to fix strange issues after am update is to do a factory restore, although that will make you have to start over with setup.

Thank you David for your help. I did try to uninstall/reinstall some of the apps (but I haven't gone through all of them yet) and nothing changed, I was still having the same issues. I don't know right offhand where my SD card reader is, but I may try to insert my card into an old phone and see if I can view them then, and I'll also give appcachecleaner a try.

FoxKat, thank you also for your response. This may be a silly question but how do I do a factory restore?

Hit your menu button, then phone settings, scroll down to privacy ... and look for factory data reset.

(It will return your phone back to a stock, fresh out of the box state. (Back up everything you want to keep ... pics, videos, etc)
