Updates for Apps

I know that when you download apps from the market you get automatic notifications if there is an update for an app. but lets say you downloaded the app to the SD card and installed it and now there is a newer version of that app available, how would you update to that ?

The update will appear in your notification pull down.

I don't seem to get them even though I know there are updates in the market for the same apps. I get notifications only for apps that I have downloaded from the market.
any help would be appreciated.

go into the market place and then hit the menu button and go into downloads.

those will be the only apps you will get a notification for an update.

if you downloaded the app from another source and installed it you wont be notified of updates.

How do you d/l to the sd card? I never see that choice...

if you download an app from another source you can copy them to the SD card then install from there and it installs the app onto the phone as if you got them from the marketplace.
