USB connection to PC-Can I download?

Wondering if the DROID has USB downloading of op sys updates and apps? I know it connects, but is it best to let the phone itself do the downloads and updating? Also, is there any backup via USB to PC as the Sttorm did?

updates will (for the time being) be release OTA. updates received by the dev community may be released via the web, which can be dowloaded and installed from your SD card.

search on how 2.0.1 was rolled out, before it was rolled out.
