OK. So I have been doing this for a while
USB host mode for Droid - Hack a Day
Now wondering if some of our wonderful devs can make some nice installable modules to support such things as Flash Drives, external HD's, etc? The only thing I can get to work is a USB keyboard but all in all with some looksee and patience I can imagine a world of modprobe and insmod goodness coming.
