Using My Tracks for Skiing

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a few ski runs I recorded with My Tracks while I was skiing last night. Too cool. Clicking on the red marker gives you all the stats. My :motdroidvert: keeps getting better :)

Ski - Google Maps

Does anyone else have any My Tracks output to share?

thats pretty cool i didn't know you could share that content...how were you skiing on grass, i don't see any snow..lol jk

Haha good point. Google maps needs a season layer :)

You can export your tracks to a Google Doc spreadsheet and/or a custom map. It's great stuff if you want to compare your performance over time on a certain path.

Here's one I took on a quick ride last year..

And this one is my daily commute..

It's pretty cool software. On my bike rides I usually put the phone in airplane mode to maximize battery.

I just wish you could download a map cache to use when there isn't any cell service, so I could use it up on backcountry hikes. I've downloaded rmap which supposedly does this, but haven't played with it yet. Edit: Looks like OruxMaps might be a nice alternative for offline GPS use.

I use My Tracks for all of my running. Sometimes I run indoors and the GPS won't pick up but i still use it to record the time I spent running.

It's great for the outdoors because I can look at it later and see how I was pacing myself and if I was starting out too hard, etc...

I just used it today for my bike ride.... wow i love it.... not i dont have to spend $200 on a garmen cyclecomputer

Thanks for the thread, been looking for an app just like this for my bike rides. Of coarse I find it while looking for something different.

Edit: Looks like OruxMaps might be a nice alternative for offline GPS use.

Yes, I can absolutely recommend OruxMaps. It's a really nice software and even highly customizable. You can even "retrace" an existing route and it will warn you if you went too far away from the given route. Just one example out of many usage cases :-) I'm going to plan a 7 days bike trip using the internet, then exporting the trip as GPX file and use it with OruxMaps. No need for another map anymore.
