Using superoneclick 1.4, advisable to root?

I tried it on my old D1 and went well and removed a couple useless apps (amazonmp3, corporatecalendar, visualvoicemail) I've read that can cause a couple issues...like what? I don't want them running in the background at all.

Anyhow I'm thinking of doing the same with my DX and mainly removing the stupid useless apps like blockbuster and vznavigator properly...but it's my new phone and I want to be extra careful with it.

Couple questions...what else useful can I do with having a rooted DX?
What is the proper way of "removing" those useless apps without them running in the background?
Any other very important info that would be worthwhile knowing like safeguards and really good things that I can do with root?

Thanks again for you guys and you being an awesome community!! :)

Root = clear caches without having to factory reset the phone. ROMs, themes, screenshots without having to use a digital camera, free tethering, Ti Backup, etc. etc. Other than overclocking, everything you can do with a rooted Droid 1, basically.
