Rooted RAZR Maxx HD won't upgrade. Did a factory reset and still same thing, get "upgrade failed". Anyone else having this issue and did you find a solution?

you cant take the update if you are/were rooted. you must flash root away to update, there are no other options.

you can use this guide to help you. my tool has a keep data option if you want to use that.

[GUIDE] root, unlock, kk and flash back to jb - xda-developers

just use the relevant parts if you dont want root etc.

My bad, guess I thought when I did a factory reset I lost root, but just checked and its still rooted. From what I've been reading I don't think I want kit kat right now anyways. My phone is clean and fast with excellent battery life so will keep as is for now, its just the annoying reminders to upgrade that I'd like to get rid of.

if you follow the guide specifically to the end, it will tell you how to update to kk, roo, unlock the bootloader, then flash back to jb and root again. after this you will never have a problem getting root again. you wont have to use exploits, you can just flash a custom recovery, then flash a su zip in that new recovery.

Someday when I have a lot of time I will do that. I'm not super savvy but I've done enough and can follow directions to get through it. Thanks.

On a side note my battery is draining probably 50% faster since I did a factory reset, can't figure out why. Have very little loaded on it right now.
