Verizon must be working on some pretty advanced stuff, either that, or they are looking to do some patent trolling in the future. According to reports, Verizon, of all companies, has filed to trademark "holograms." Perhaps they see a big opportunity in the future to replace all the currently available 3D technology, or maybe they found some super advanced tech in a crashed alien spaceship. I would have expected an actual technology manufacturer, like Google or Apple, to grab this one. Verizon?

Still, regardless of who creates it or trademarks it, it certainly would be cool to have a phone that projects a holographic image. If our phones were that much like R2D2, then they really would be "the droids we are looking for."

It is a bit surprising, and especially since that name "hologram" has been in the public fore a while. i didnt realize people could randomly trademark words from a dictionary, i could be a huge troll and just trademark a couple thousand words....

I just trademarked phone! I'm going to make billions! Mwhahaha! xD

But that is strange... I wonder what they have planned. I'm guessing it's probably going to be the name of a new phone. The Verizon Droid Hologram. :p

the next r2-d2 version is going to be crazy:hail:

I just trademarked the letters A, E, I, O, U and just in case Y. Pay-up everyone. :D

Checks in the mail. Should be there on the 2nd thurday of next week. I'd give you a tracking number but that cost extra ;)

Yea, this is pretty bad. People gave Apple a lot of slack for some of it's shenanigans, I hope they give it equally to Verizon for this.

hmm maybe a pico projector phone?!

Thats what i thought of. In my head, the only way to name a phone after a hologram without an actual hologram would be having that small projector they showed off a while ago on a phone.

How ironic, I'm watching Episode 1 on Spike in the background right now. ;)

Knowing VZW, it will probably just be the name of a phone....

they could trademark "Droid Hologram", but not hologram itself.
