VNC wont connect to Desktop

hey all, i found this cool remote viewing app called VNC...it works great! but when i have my PC locked it is unable to connect. this is frustrating because i keep my pc locked when im away, so i was wondering if anyone else had this problem and if there was a way to fix it?
