Not really a droid question, more a verizon but i like this forum. When i'm at work i get no service (fringe area inside a metal building with no windows). If i go to a window I can pull voicemail. However i would like to be able to get an email sent to me at my desk to tell me i have a voicemail (job hunting). Since i have no service not of the apps like G Voice will work, correct? I can get a wifi on my phone but it's behind my companies firewall where things like market and talk won't work.

Thanks

Look at getting a Google Voice number. You can set it up to notify you via e-mail for new messages and can set it to ring several phone numbers on a call.

You'd have to verify by testing whether or not the GV app would work on your company's WiFi. As stated above, you could:
  1. Set up email notifications of VM to an account accessible via your PC
  2. Use GV to ring your office line (callers would need to use your GV number for this)
You could also use the GV site. I rely heavily on the GV site on my work PC for sending/receiving SMS and checking GV VM while at work.

but your phone actually needs to recieve the call for GV to relay it doesn't it. If you don't have service the phone and therefore GV won't work.

I guess i could leave the phone in the truck all day but i do use it for a few things and the address book.

Even if your phone cannot receive a call, GV can be configured to e-mail whatever account you want with a notification (and/or ring your office line if you want). You can then use your land line to retrieve the message. I think the e-mail can even have a recording of the message attached to the e-mail.
