Root has led to all sorts of custom mods. One of the more popular mods for rooted devices is Volume Key music control. This allows you to control your music player without your screen being turned on. You are able to skip tracks backwards and forwards while your device remains asleep. This type of mod has previously only been available in your favorite rom, but you can now have it on your unrooted device with Tasker!
The method for making this work is a bit drawn out, but if you have some time and patience and are good at following directions "Mishal Rahman" has put together the full guide at the link below. This does require the paid version of Tasker Pro which is $3.
