Vortex random shutoff and app wipe

have a friend whose vortex randomly reboots itself and when it does, it wipes his angry birds, pandora, zenonia 3, and facebook apps from the sd card. anyone encountered anything similar? i havent asked if he has his phone rooted or not, but when i find out, ill update the info.

he does not have the phone rooted and its still having the same issues here and there...
