VZ Droid Razr internet

My Verizon Droid Razr is having some Hotspot and tethering problems when connected to my Dell W7 laptop.

To keep this as brief and clear as possible, tethering takes many minutes to connect to the internet. I'm in a 3g area which from time to time can go to National Access, but, the phone's browser never has a problem. The tethering slows down my Control Panel to a crawl, and has been known to lock up my computer to the point of having to power it down.

The Hotspot is a little better, but occasionally when turning it off on the phone, it doesn't want to turn off. It will then present me with a "not responding" screen, and the I have to do a Force shutdown. After that, the phone may reboot itself, and then it does the oddest thing. It will start ringing. And keep on ringing, and never stop ringing. I then turn it off for a few minutes and it's ok.

Are you using the official tethering from the Wireless & Networking section, or 3rd party like PDANet?

I know it takes a few mins. for my computer to connect with the tethering stuff on my Bionic, and stuff like the wireless section of windows slows down till it has connected.

I am using the official W&N stuff.

Just now, when trying to use the Hotspot, it would connect to the phone, but No internet access. Waited, and waited, reconnected.. nothing. So, (and I'm getting tired of this) I Powered off the phone and rebooted. Voila, internet.

I'm paying very good money for this and I expect it to work without it taking 20 minutes or rebooting every single time. I have been on the phone to V tech support and I'm getting a replacement new phone, but, I'm not optimistic it's going to be any better.

Update: I've switched to using my Samsung netbook, W7 starter. It seems to connect to the hotspot much faster. Perhaps the problem is in my Dell computer, not the phone.

New driver needed perhaps?

What moto drivers version are you using?

I've done USB tethering on two desktops (both custom built) and it does take a while. Though, on my laptop while I'm on Linux it's instant.

Here's a screenshot of my control panel. That doesn't look anything like a Razr to me!
I have no idea why it's calling it a Bluetooth device. And obviously I'm a little confused on posting pics.

something else.. my "SS" Usb ports are not working.. or they just don't charge the phone. have to check that out

Got a new phone. Works somewhat better, but check this out:

Tether Droid Razr.. switch tethering on and off throughout the day. Leave connected via USB. After a few hours of this, computer doesn't recognize Droid when Tethering, but does see that it's connected. Assuming something wrong with computer, Restart computer with usb connected.

Computer can't boot up.. says "Non system disk or disk error". "Operating system not found". Unplug USB cable. Computer boots. Power off Droid. Power on Droid. Reconnect to computer, select tethering and all is well again.

These devices are FAR from perfection aren't they?

Your pc is setup to boot from usb if present. Fail safe if operating system fails. Usually looks for cdrom then usb disk, if nether found it boots normal.
