Vzw Network Extender problems

I've bought a new network extender from vzw for use at home. Setup was easy and it appears to have worked (according to the leds.)

When I'm at home my wireless signal strength bars fluctuate between 0 and 4 bars though, even when standing 5 feet away from it. Nothing on vzw's website faq adresses this. Many dropped calls.

Ideas?

Personally, I would return it and get a booster instead.

That's what I installed, have 3g signal in my basement that you had complete signal loss in before.
