Watch your purchased Google play movie content through YouTube

Because of my Chromecast I find myself purchasing and renting movie via google play. 99% of the time I am able to just cast it from phone to tv but I noticed that lately I kept getting static and a "server error watch on youtube". This issue was a rare off and on issue and now I see that Google was working in the background to try and bridge their Google Play Movie & TV app with YouTube. Though I do not see myself using this feature I am curious how far Google plan on going with bridging Google Play M&T with Youtube, in other words is Google looking to basically migrate everything to YouTube and do away with Google Play M&T?
