Rockplayer works good for me, i don't think its in the market anymore but you should be able to find the apk through a search, there is a free and paid version.

Act1 plays MP4's and has a variety of different zoom functions to make your videos play full-screen.

RockPlayer plays a lot of other video files, including AVI and MKV, but does not have as many full-screen options.

To make your movies full-screen, have a look at the link in my signature. While the link shows settings in regards of DVD Catalyst 3, the entire post can be used for other conversion tools as well.

to be honest, i have tried all those above and they dont really do it as well as the iphone default player. they will either stretch or "smoosh" the image to fit. so you will have a full screen but everyone will be taller and skinnier. it annoys me so i will just live with the widescreen view until someone comes up with a correct "full screen zoom" view

Have a look at the full-screen article.

There are only 2 methods on how you can make video full-screen, either during conversion or with a video player app. If you want to continue to use the default video app, you will have to do it during conversion.

* One way of making video full-screen is by "cropping". Parts of the actual video are cut-off, and the resulting video portion plays in full-screen.

* Another option is to stretch the video (aka anamorphic)

Any other method will result in some form of black bars to be displayed.

Act1 has options for both methods, and I believe some "half" options which produces some black borders, but a lot less than if you would not use them.

edit: the iPhone video player uses the first method. its zoom function just scaled the video to its full height, and removes the sides of the actual video.
