Has anyone else noticed this? Used to be I could jsut click on a link within a text message and the web page would open. Not anymore. What gives?

Depends on the link, should open if it is a web page, if it is a YouTube link or other app link, it probably won't work anymore, thank Apple and the American Legal System for that one, according to Apple, the ability to do that infringes on their patents!

Yes I have noticed it also. I don't know what to do though. I also noticed that maps is no longer working.
Been an ongoing issue since last version of Maps came out, go to Settings-> Apps->Maps and Uninstall Updates, then do not accept any update to Maps (Might have to go to Map's Play Store page and make sure Automatic Updating is turned off too)

Web links and others

Very sorry to hear of the links problem. I have an HTC Desire S and following the RUU update to ics found that links in any text messages were inactive.

After getting a runaround from HTC my cellnet provider told me that HTC has removed that function from the update/upgrade. And they didn't even ask me if I could get by without it:mad:

This can be gotten around and made to work again... two ways... the first requires root access, see this thread: [How-To] Remove HTClinkifydispatcher.apk to open YouTube links to the YouTube app etc - xda-developers

The second is simply to replace the stock apps with aftermarket ones, like Go SMS in place of Messages, or Maxthon for the Browser.

That 'How-To' sounds to be my preferred solution but I wonder if I may ask for a simple step list of how-to root a Desire S? It's just that I'm pleading old age here and there seems to be so many varieties of rooting procs throughout forums and websites.
Please excuse a double-noob !

I am not familiar with your device, but am with HTC's in general... Would highly recommend seeking out a forum specifically for your device, this might be a good place to start: [GUIDE] Complete Tutorial for the Beginners and Others - xda-developers

XDA has kind of a bad rap about how some users get treated there, but I looked through some of the threads in this section and it doesn't seem to bad, and there is a lot of knowledge there. Not trying to point you away from Droidforums, but XDA might be a lot more help for your specific device.

Many thanks Acejavelin. Sorry I cannot find a 'Thanks' button
Glad to help out... There is no "Thanks" button here, just a like button... hover over the message you want to like with the mouse and a little Thumps Up and Like should appear to the right hand-bottom of the message text, click that and good to go!

Good luck!
