So, I've been trying to solve this one for a couple of weeks on my own with no luck. On a semi-regular basis (once or twice a day) my phone freaks out. It starts jumping screens around as if someone were quickly pressing the home and/or menu keys. It will jump from the home screen to the running apps screen to the home screen, then to a running app with the keyboard open, then back to the home screen, then to the "show all 5 sense screens", then back to home screen, then back to show all 5 screens, then back to home... You get the picture. There is no particular order to the above. Sometimes it jumps between 2 of the above. Other times it jumps between 3 or more. It may jump between 1 or 2 for a few times, then start jumping to a different one. It will often "pause" on the show all running apps screen for a few seconds before eventually starting to jump around again. A lot of times it ends up getting stuck on the show all app screen.

Sometimes, if I wait 20 seconds or so, it will stop this and go back to normal. Other times, it completely locks up and I can't even power off and have to do a battery pull to get it running again.

I've tried to figure out if it's a specific app that's causing it focusing on the apps that I have running almost always, but to no avail. I tried not using Live Wallpaper, but that didn't help. I uninstalled Audiogalaxy because I use that app everyday so it's almost always in the running apps list, but the issue remained. I've searched high and low for someone else having this issue, but all I find is people having issues with the optical joystick causing the home screens to shift on their own which is not my issue.

As I mentioned, the issue seems to be triggering the home and/or menu keys because all the screens it is jumping between are screens that are triggered by pressing those keys.

I am running stock HTC Sense with Froyo. I have a 16gb class 10 card on the phone and all apps that can be moved to SD card and don't have widgets have been moved to card.

Hoping someone can help me figure this out. It's at the point where I'm actually thinking my next phone might have to be the first LTE iPhone and I don't want to go to the dark side!!!!

Thanks in advanced.

Jumping Around

I am having the same problem with the screens on my droid jumping around randomly. And the screen locks up so I can't do anything - including answering the phone! I have taken it to Verizon, they told me to "reboot" by taking out the battery and putting it back in. Not working. Not Happy.:icon_evil:

Possible solution???

Well, I don't know for sure, but after doing a ton of research one thing that I found sprinkled around various forums not just with the Incredible but with any and all Android phones (or even iphones) is that using Non-OEM Chargers can have an effect on the hardware of the phone.

I bought name brand chargers for mine, but not wanting to shell out the big bucks, I didn't buy HTC. I bought Motorola ones - both for car charging and home charging - the home I used mainly because I didn't like the USB plug in deal with the HTC one. So anyway, based on what I read, even though the chargers will work to charge the battery on the phone, because they may not be exactly the same as the manufacturer charger (Motorala is .500A-something whereas HTC is 1a-whatever it is) that can effect the hardware, mainly the touchscreen and the hard keys.

So I ordered an HTC brand car charger today and am going to start using the HTC brand wall charger that came with the phone at home and see how that does.

I'll report back here in a week or so if that seems to alleviate the issue.

In the meantime if anyone out there has other suggestions or knows of other things that would cause this problem, please shed some light!

Did you restore things via Titanium Backup? If so, were system applications or system data restored?

I haven't used any backup service because I haven't had to restore my phone thankfully so that should be irrelevant to this issue is assume.

The charger I use for my phone is the HTC, so that isn't my problem. I finally took my droid into Verizon for the 2nd time. This time, they told me the sensors on the phone seem to be bad and that programs were opening and closing randomly. He looked all thru my apps and saw no problems so they ordered a new phone for me.

Lets see if it happens again.

Agreed

Yeah, I started using only the HTC charger and it didn't happen for a day or so. I was getting excited hoping I had found the solution, then last night it happened again while it was charging with the HTC Charger no less.

*sigh* which means I probably didn't need to order additional HTC Chargers and could keep using the ones I have already! Oh well...

I also have looked through my apps and I don't have anything "weird" on here and all the things I do have are apps that are 4+ stars and don't see any complaints about messing up the phone in this way, so I'm assuming like the Verizon people told you, it's a hardware issue.

I'm wondering if you were able to show the Verizon store people the issue. On mine I can't "make" it happen. It's totally random. May not happen at all for two days, then might happen 3-4 times in a single day. I don't know how to "trigger" it to happen.

Also if anyone knows, if my phone is past the 1 year warranty, what happens? I do have insurance, but I assume that does not cover for manufacturer defects...
